Cutting Through the London Coliseum

Two precise cuts through the London Coliseum split one of the city's largest theatre into two and reorientates its entrance. The soft cut is a velvety corridor between the double curtain down the center of the original theatre that permanently separates the stage and the audience into two independent auditoriums. The smaller theatres will better adapt to falling audience numbers by providing a broader variety of showings. The hard cut is an alleyway branching off from an existing passage famously known to have London's narrowest opening. The new alleyway will become a cultural short cut between Covent Garden and Trafalgar Square. Elevated walkways above the alleyways will see the theatre’s inner workings spill into the city’s everyday.
